A SOUTH PRELIM: #12-KENNEBUNK VS. #5-CHEVERUS
October 21, 2022
Fifth-ranked Cheverus got goals from four different players and broke open a close game with goals late in the first half and early in the second as it advanced to the Class A South girls’ soccer quarterfinals with a 4-0 win Friday against 12th-seeded Kennebunk, in Portland.
The Stags (11-4) next face No. 4 Marshwood on Wednesday.
Cheverus went ahead in the seventh minute when Jillian Foley scored off a corner kick.
It appeared the Rams (3-10-2) would only be down by one goal heading into halftime, but Annie Vigue set up Jaelyn Jensen for a header with just five seconds remaining.
The Stags then made it 3-0 just 90 seconds into the second half, as Finley Brown headed home Rachel LaSalle’s corner kick.
Vigue accounted for the final goal, off a feed from Brown, midway through the second half.
Isabella Crowe stopped 14 shots for Kennebunk, which didn’t put a shot on frame.
