GORHAM AT CHEVERUS
October 16, 2024
Ashley Connolly scored two goals as Gorham topped Cheverus in Portland.
Connolly’s first goal came off a 30-yard blast with just over a minute to go before halftime.
The Stags (9-2-2) pulled even with 25 minutes left in regulation as Annie Vigue set up Sophia Monfa.
Connolly’s second goal won it for the Rams (10-1-1) with 6:56 left as she headed home Logan Doughty’s corner kick.
“I know Logan plays long balls, so I stayed back more. I was just trying to get my head on it and get it in,” said Connolly.
Gorham fought off a last-second Cheverus flurry to prevail and momentarily move into the top spot in the Class A South Heal point standings.
“It’s an important win for us,” said Gorham Coach Jeanne Zarrilli. “I was really happy we were able to step up and win in this environment.”
Rams keeper Lydia Spear and Stags goalie Evelyn Rush both made five saves.
“It was a much better effort and focus in the second half,” said Stags Coach Craig Roberts. “We have to buckle down and pay more attention to defense.”
