A SOUTH SEMIFINAL: #3-SCARBOROUGH VS. #2-FALMOUTH

November 2, 2024

Shamus Corry stopped a penalty kick with four-tenths of a second remaining to preserve a Class A South semifinal win for the third-seeded Red Storm (13-1-1) against the second-seeded Navigators (12-3-1) in Falmouth.

Falmouth’s Evan Mayo was awarded the penalty kick when he drew excessive contact from Scarborough’s defenders =after a desperation chip by Simon Wissink from 35 yards.

Mayo sent a low shot to right side of the goal, but Corry smothered it while diving to his left.

EJ Herrick scored the winning goal when he headed in a 30-yard free kick by Denver Bachman in the 56th minute.

Scarborough got the opening goal in the 24th minute. Bachman headed Carter Blanche’s long throw-in behind Falmouth’s back line to an open area to the right side of the goal, and Khalil Ghosheh finished it.

Falmouth tied it 11:26 into the second half, as Dan Stoicov’s long cross from the sideline was batted down in front of the goal by Corry and Wyatt Carlson drove it home.
