Ashley Connolly converted a penalty kick with under five minutes remaining after a handball, lifting the third-seeded Rams (12-2-1) over the No. 6 Trojans (8-5-3) in a Class A South quarterfinal at Gorham.
Quincy Thibault scored both Thornton goals, including a tying tally in the second half. Julia Reed and Sarah Rosingana were the other goal scorers for Gorham, which advances to play Scarborough in the semifinals.
Rams keeper Lydia Spear was credited with two saves. Thornton’s Ava Lomax stopped six shots.
