Reese Belanger scored her fourth goal of the game with 14 seconds remaining to lift No. 9 Cheverus (9-6) to a victory over eighth-ranked Portland (9-6) in a Class A  prelim at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Cheverus goes to top-ranked Kennebunk for the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Stags trailed 5-2 late in the first half before scoring six straight goals to go up by three. The Bulldogs rallied to tie the score on a goal from Phoebe Knoll with 1:42 to go, but Belanger won it, off an assist from Mackenzie Cash.

Lucy Johnson led Cheverus with six goals and goalie Elle Cooney made 14 saves.

Portland was paced by three goals from Elizabeth Littell and two apiece from Knoll and Eliza Stein. Eva Smith saved five shots.
