Winning pitcher Brooklyn Federico’s two-run double keyed a five-run fifth inning as the top-seeded Mustangs (16-1) broke a 1-1 tie in a Class C South quarterfinal win over the ninth-seeded Hawks (9-9) in Monmouth.
The Mustangs added four runs in the sixth as they advanced to face No. 4 Spruce Mountain on Saturday.
Shanna Parsons, Bella Lyons and Grace Levesque also doubled. Federico, Parsons, Rileigh Chase, Maddie Herr and June Foyt all collected two hits.
Federico allowed just two hits and held the Hawks scoreless after the first inning.
Sacopee Valley starter Leia Dole matched Federico with just one run allowed until Monmouth’s big fifth inning. Abby Sanborn came on in relief in the sixth.
