Braiden Croteau pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Sacopee Valley edged Monmouth Academy, 4-3, in a meeting of Class C South baseball contenders Thursday in Hiram.

Two of the three runs against Croteau were unearned. He issued only one walk.

Croteau, Bryce Stacey and Silas Nielsen each drove in a run for the reigning state champions (7-4).

Rory Foyt hit a double for Monmouth (8-3), which is ranked No. 1 in the Class C South Heal point standings.
