PORTLAND 9, NOBLE 8, 8 INNINGS

Anthony Bisco’s squib single scored Dominic Moffo with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and No. 7 Portland survived 10th-ranked Noble 9-8 in a Class A South opening-round baseball game at Hadlock Field on Monday.

The Knights (7-10) scored four unearned runs in the top of the first inning, but the Bulldogs (10-6-1) rallied behind three doubles and three RBI from designated hitter Andrew Legere to take an 8-6 lead.

Noble then came back in the top of the seventh with two runs to force extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, James Gignac led off with a single. Moffo came on to run and after being sacrificed to second, he scored easily when Bisco’s hit bounded into left field.

Liam Winship got the win in relief and seven players had at least two hits for Portland, which will take on No. 2 Falmouth in the quarterfinals.
