Freshman Aine Powers scored five first-half goals as the top-ranked Clippers (12-1) defeated No. 9 Cape Elizabeth (4-10) in a Class B quarterfinal in Yarmouth.
The Clippers (12-1) took the lead for good on a goal from Katelyn D’Appolonia, then Natalie Teare and Powers added goals for a quick 3-0 lead. By halftime, Yarmouth was ahead 13-2, and a mercy-rule running clock was in effect for the entire second half.
D’Appolonia finished with four goals, Anna Thornton had three, and Annie Bergeron and Teare each got two goals and two assists. Annie Lowenstein got the other goal. Yarmouth goalie Juliet Meas made six saves.
Cape Elizabeth, the two-time reigning Class B champion, got goals from Charlotte Graham, Hannah Johnson, Claire McDonald and Laura Ryer and five saves from Elise Branch.
