Joey Foley plowed in from the 1 late in the third quarter for his second touchdown of the game, breaking a 7-7 deadlock as Deering opened its season with a 17-7 victory over Marshwood in South Berwick.
After winning just one game in the previous two seasons combined, the Rams matched that total in their first game under their new coach, former Massabesic Athletic Director Brendan Scully.
Foley opened the scoring with an 11-yard run late in the first half.
Marshwood tied it on its first drive of the second half, capped by Ryan Essex’s 17-yard touchdown run.
But Deering regained the lead on Foley’s second TD, and Christian Silva added a 20-yard field goal with 4:57 remaining.
