OLD TOWN — In a physical battle, the Dirigo Cougars defeated Old Town Coyotes 15-14 in the football season-opener for both teams Friday night.
After the Coyotes jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, Dirigo started to chip away at the deficit in the third quarter. Alex Gorham put the Cougars on the board with a 4-yard run.
Gorham picked up his second touchdown with three minutes to go when the Cougars blocked a punt at the Old Town goal line, and Gorham pounced on the loose ball in the end zone. The Cougars converted on the two-point conversion when quarterback Cole Brown found Cameron Kidder in the end zone.
