The Red Eddies (13-2) led by 16 points after one quarter and held on to beat the Golden Trojans (10-5) in a showdown of two of the top teams in Class AA in Saco.
Edward Little — paced by John Shea’s nine points, Pat Anthoine’s seven and Marshal Adams’ six — outscored Thornton 22-6 in the opening quarter. William Davies (24 points) scored all six of the Trojans’ points in the period.
The Red Eddies added two points to their lead in the second quarter, and led 37-18 at half, before the Trojans cut eight points off of the lead in the third and four more in the fourth.
Shea topped all scorers with 30 points, including 10-for-13 shooting at the free-throw line. Anthoine, who hit three 3-pointers and was 4 for 4 at the foul line, finished with 17, and Adams drained three treys and had nine points.
Davies made two 3s and was 8 of 9 at the charity stripe. Eleven of his 24 points were scored in the fourth quarter. Anthony Jones hit four 3s and added 18 points for Thornton Academy.
