KENNEBUNK AT SOUTH PORTLAND
October 13, 2023
South Portland got touchdown runs from Easton Healy, Matthew Berry, Connor Gerard and Matthew Frey and made a key goal-line stand late in the first half as the Red Riots handed Kennebunk its first loss of the season, 27-6, in an interclass football game Friday night in South Portland.
Class A South Portland (3-4) led throughout after Healy’s 5-yard keeper less than five minutes into the game.
Class B Kennebunk scored on a 10-yard option pass from Jaiden Homa to quarterback Gray Compton early in the second quarter, but the conversion kick failed, so the Rams still trailed, 7-6.
Berry made it 14-6 with a 27-yard run late in the second quarter. Kennebunk quickly drove down field, only to fumble the ball away on fourth-and-goal at the 2.
Gerard broke it open with a 6-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, and Frey capped the scoring with a 1-yard run in the fourth.
