Cony 91, Lawrence 52

AUGUSTA — Luke Briggs became the Cony boys basketball program’s fifth 1,000-point scorer, netting 19 points to help the Rams handle Lawrence 91-52 in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference action Wednesday night.

Briggs, who entered the game 14 points shy, reached the number on a 3-pointer from the left corner midway through the third quarter. The game was stopped for a ceremony, and Briggs was given the ball by former teammate Simon McCormick, Cony’s last 1,000-point scorer.

“It speaks to all the time that that kid has put into being a good basketball player,” coach T.J. Maines said. “He loves it. He loves hoops, he put a lot of time into it, and from a young age he wanted to be really good. He’s done that. He has a really good feel for it, and I give him a lot of credit. He’s super unselfish.”

Briggs added six assists, while Dom Napolitano scored 16, Parker Sergent had 14 and Kam Douin scored 12 to join him in double figures for Cony (12-6), which wrapped up the fourth seed in Class A North.

The Bulldogs finished their regular season at 6-12.
