Chandler Briggs poured in a game-high 19 points as the Cougars opened the season with a victory over the Eagles in Oakland.
Zach Poisson and Evan Sterling joined Briggs in double figures for Mt. Blue (1-0) with 12 points each. Zach Koban (eight points), Charles Stevens (five points) and Jayden Meader (three) also scored for the Cougars.
Center Merrick Smith led a balanced Messalonskee scoring effort with nine points. The Eagles (0-1) also got eight points from Sam Dube, seven points from Daniel Parent, six each from Drake Brunelle and Jacob Moody and four from Ty Bernier.
