BETHEL — Telstar rolled to its first victory of the season, shutting out Mt. View in 8-man football Small School South division action Monday.

Telstar coach Tim O’Connor said that the Rebels (1-2) have improved through the first three weeks of the season, and they showed it in several facets of the game in Monday’s contest, which was rescheduled from Saturday due to the anticipated weather from Hurricane Lee.

The defense, led by Cruze Kimball and Hunter Koskela, blanked the Mustangs (0-3). O’Connor said Kimball and Koskela had a few sacks each and both were in on several tackles.

“They were stellar on the corners,” O’Connor said.

Offensively, the Rebels used running and passing to score all of their points in the first half before switching to their run game in the third and fourth quarters.

Quarterback Brody Walker started the scoring with a 15-yard run in the first quarter to give Telstar a 6-0 advantage.

Gavinn Martin added two more TD runs in the opening period, a 30-yarder and a 50-yarder, as the Rebels’ lead grew to 18-0.

Walker threw a pair of touchdowns to Wyatt Lilly in the second quarter. One went for 65 yards and the other for 40. Both 2-point conversions were successful. Martin ran in the first one and Michael Early converted the second.
