LISBON — Poland’s fourth-quarter comeback fell short against Lisbon on Saturday in a Class D football game at Thompson Field, as the Greyhounds held on for a 20-16 win in both teams’ regular-season finale.

The Knights (2-4) had one last chance to take the lead, but Lagan O’Driscoll’s pass was tipped up in the air and intercepted by the Greyhounds (3-3) with just seconds left on the clock. Poland coach Gus LeBlanc said if his team caught the ball, it might have gone for a game-winning touchdown.

Lisbon took a 20-0 lead into the fourth quarter on two touchdown runs by Nick Blair and one by Colby Levasseur.

“Our offensive line was a strength for us today and our backs ran hard behind them,” Lisbon coach Chris Kates said.

Isaac Fifield helped spark the Knights’ comeback. His 48-yard punt in the fourth quarter was muffed by the Greyhounds, and Poland recovered at the Lisbon 8. That led to a Fifield 4-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion run.

After the Knights made a fourth-down stop near midfield, Fifield caught a screen pass from O’Driscoll and took it 58 yards for a touchdown. O’Driscoll connected with Nick Aube for the 2-point conversion.

Poland stopped Lisbon again to get the ball back, but the game-ending interception soon followed.

“My kids played four quarters of football,” LeBlanc said. “They tried hard all four quarters. It was a good effort.”
