Quarterback Giovanni St. Onge scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 2-yard run with 2:50 left, and the Stags (1-1) held on to beat the Blue Blazes (0-2) in Portland.
Westbrook quarterback Carter Dow threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Aiden Taylor with 22 seconds left to cut the Stags’ lead to 36-34, but the conversion attempt failed.
Dow and Taylor also connected for TD throws of 14 and 15 yards, both giving the Blue Blazes eight-point leads – 14-6 in the first quarter and 22-14 just before halftime.
Dow also had a 15-yard TD run and Thomas Lewis scored on a 2-yard run for Westbrook.
Joe Oesi and Matthew Fogg had short scoring runs for Cheverus.
