Freshman quarterback Giovanni Staples passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another Saturday, leading Westbrook to a 27-6 win over Nokomis in a Class C football game in Newport.

Westbrook (2-4) took the lead in the second quarter on a 36-yard run by Steven White. Staples then connected with Aidan Taylor for a 23-yard TD to make it 14-0 at halftime.

Gavin Tanner extended the lead to 20-0 in the third quarter with a 64-yard touchdown catch. Staples added a 10-yard scoring run in the fourth.
