Nathaniel Wainwright scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half and overtime, leading the eighth-seeded Cougars (11-8) past the ninth-seeded Seagulls (8-11) in a Class C South prelim at Dixfield.
Wainwright was 9 for 10 at the free-throw line overall and got six of Dirigo’s eight points in overtime, while Old Orchard Beach was held scoreless.
Owen Smith added 14 points and Dakota White had 12, helping Dirigo advance to a quarterfinal on Monday against No. 1 Mt. Abram at the Augusta Civic Center.
Levi Perrone led Old Orchard Beach with 14 points. Trot Moody and Brady Plante each scored 13.
