Nathaniel Wainwright scored a game-high 24 points as the Cougars (5-2) edged the Mustangs (6-2) in an MVC clash in Dixfield.
Wainwright scored 10 of those points from the free-throw line, including a streak of eight straight from the second to the fourth quarter after missing his first two. Dakota White added 11 points for Dirigo, and Travis Wright scored seven of his 10 points in the fourth, when the Cougars outscored the Mustangs 23-12.
Kyle Palleschi scored 17, Levi Laverdiere 14 and Sammy Calder 11 for Monmouth.
“One of the loudest games I’ve ever been a part of at Defoe Gymnasium,” Dirigo coach Cody St. Germain posted on social media after the game.
