The Cougars (1-0) scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to take home the win over the Broncos (1-1) in Hampden.
Mt. Blue jumped ahead quickly with a six-run first inning before Hampden countered with two runs in the bottom-half of the inning. Hampden added a run in the third inning, then in the sixth the Cougars scored three more times to take a 9-3 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hampden tied it with six runs before Mt. Blue won it in the seventh. On the mound to close the game for the Cougars was Hayden Dippner who pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up just two hits and earning the win.
Hayden Dippner and Zachary Poisson both notched a pair of hits for Mt. Blue in the win. Hampden Academy’s Zachary McLaughlin led all hitters with three hits.
