Khaelon Watkins sank three 3-pointers in the first quarter, including one just before the buzzer, to start Cheverus on its way to a 59-48 win over Westbrook in a Class A South boys basketball game Saturday in Portland.

Watkins, a freshman, finished with 23 points. Joe Iaccarino added 15 points on five 3-pointers, and Colton Jewett made three 3-pointers of nine points as Cheverus improved to 3-5.

Faiz Omar scored 20 and Jelson Binda had 10 for Westbrook (4-3).
