GORHAM 2, SOUTH PORTLAND 1
Hunter Finck struck out 12 and allowed just three hits in 6 2/3 innings, and Gorham knocked off the No. 1 baseball team in the Varsity Maine Top 10 with a 2-1 victory over South Portland on Tuesday night in Gorham.
Finck outdueled South Portland’s Nathan Masters, who struck out 11 and gave up six hits in a complete game.
Both teams are now 9-1.
South Portland scored an unearned run in the seventh when Hudson Iacuessa reached on a wild pitch with two runners on base after striking out against reliever Dante Cuesta. Cuesta, though, retired the next batter for a save.
Both Gorham runs came on two-out RBI singles, by Sawyer Smith in the second inning and Isaac Stevens in the fourth.
