Sienna Eldred scored 19 points, and Maise McIntosh got 10 of her 16 points in the first quarter to start Thornton Academy on its way to a 58-44 win over Kennebunk in a Class A South girls basketball preliminary-round game Wednesday night in Saco.

The seventh-seeded Golden Trojans (11-8) led 15-5 after one quarter and stayed in front throughout against the No. 10 Rams (7-12).

Brooke Bodnar added 12 points to help Thornton advance to a quarterfinal Tuesday at the Portland Expo against second-seeded Sanford.

Riley Ewing led Kennebunk with 11 points, followed by Laura Clukey with 10 and Kendall Therrien with nine.
