at Augusta Civic Center

Temple Academy 38, North Haven 25

Maddie Corey scored 17 points to lead fourth-seeded Temple Academy to a 38-25 victory over fifth-seeded North Haven in a Class S South girls basketball quarterfinal Thursday at the Augusta Civic Center.

The Bereans (10-7) advance to face No. 1 Valley (18-1) in the semifinals on Tuesday.

“I’m super proud of everybody,” said Corey. “This is an amazing game, amazing feeling after the game. I have never personally gone past the quarterfinals, so it feels really good to have that under my belt this season.”

This also is Temple coach Lindsay Beaulieu’s first time reaching the semifinals. Before the game, she made sure to tell her players — especially those participating in their first tournament — to enjoy the moment.

“I have some juniors and two seniors on my team that have been here before to kind of calm everybody down,” Beaulieu said. “My new girls that have never been here, I was like, ‘Guys, just enjoy it. Soak it all in. Enjoy the experience regardless of what happens. This is an amazing thing.'”

Amaya Thomas contributed 10 points for Temple.

Elsie Mann led North Haven with 13 points.
