Devin Bryant went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs for the Phoenix, who started fast and held on for a season-opening victory over the Roadrunners (0-3) in Jay.
Laya Spear brought in four runs on two hits for Spruce Mountain. Santika Hodgkin also finished with three hits, and Ashley Nelson and Sophie Foss contributed two apiece.
Spruce Mountain’s Rylee Turner pitched six of the seven innings and struck out nine batters while allowing one run to earn the win.
The Phoenix plated seven runs in the first inning, four in the second and one in the third to take a 12-0 lead. Mt. Abram got back in the game with three runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Celia Rose led the Roadrunners with two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
