Barron Silver hit a two-run single in the first inning and Kyle Soule belted a three-run homer in the sixth as the third-seeded Rangers (12-5) beat the No. 6 Clippers (10-8) in a Class B South quarterfinal in Cumberland.
Greely scored in each of the first three innings to build a 4-0 lead. Yarmouth answered with two runs in the fourth, including an RBI double from Chase Garofoli, but Sam Almy blanked the Clippers the rest of the way. He allowed five hits, struck out six and walked three.
Silver led Greely with three hits. Soule had two hits, as did Yarmouth’s Iggy McGrath.
Greely advances to play second-seeded Leavitt on Saturday.
