A nine-run third inning broke the game wide open as the third-seeded Bucks cruised to a five-inning Class D South quarterfinal victory over the sixth-seeded Vikings (4-9) in Buckfield.

The teams were scoreless before Buckfield’s nine-spot in the bottom of the third. The Bucks finished off the victory when Krosby Harvey singled, stole second base and then scored on Nate Thomas’ triple with no outs in the fifth.

Eight of Buckfield’s 10 hits came from the first three batters in the lineup: Harvey was 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs, while Thomas and Jame Tyne (triple) each had two hits and drove in two runs.

Bucks starting pitcher Breydan Ridlon limited Vinalhaven/North Haven to three hits and one walk while striking out nine batters in 4 2/3 innings.

Cyrus Chilles, Anthony Roberts and Blake Lazaro each had a hit for the Vikings.

Buckfield moves on to face either No. 2 Telstar (13-3) or No. 7 Madison (4-12) in the D South semifinals.
