Jillian Edgar was 3 for 4 with three RBI and three runs scored, and the seventh-seeded Red Riots (11-6) advanced to the Class A South quarterfinals by defeating the 10th-seeded Hawks (6-11) in South Portland.
Rachel DiMauro also notched three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs to help the Red Riots set up a clash against No. 2 Bonny Eagle on Thursday. South Portland took control early, scoring two runs in the first inning and three in the second for a 5-1 lead.
Laurali Shisler was 2 for 4 with two runs scored for the Hawks, who closed to within 5-4 in the fifth before the Red Riots pulled away again with one run in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth.
