Bradley Farrell hauled in a deep pass from Giovanni D’Elia and went 82 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:58 remaining, lifting Kennebunk to a 21-17 win over Cheverus in a Class B South football game Saturday in Portland.

There were five lead changes in the second half. Cheverus (1-2) went ahead 17-14 on a 25-yard pass from Colton Jewett to AJ Lauture with 7:50 remaining, then held the Rams (2-1) on downs at the Kennebunk 39. The Stags couldn’t get a first down, however, electing to punt on fourth-and-3.

Kennebunk took over at its own 16, and on second down, D’Elia rolled out and found Farrell wide open behind the Cheverus defense. The junior running back caught the ball near midfield and ran it in from there.

The only scoring in the first half was a 39-yard field goal by Jackson Holmes of Cheverus less than two minutes into the game.

Both teams scored on their first possession of the second half. Kennebunk’s Peter Landenberger returned the kickoff to the Cheverus 32 and eventually reached the end zone from 3 yards out. The drive was kept alive by a 27-yard pass from D’Elia to Ethan White on fourth-and-8.

Cheverus quickly regained the lead on a 1-yard plunge by Will Baker. Kennebunk, though, moved back in front on a 55-yard run by White with eight seconds left in the third quarter, after a face mask penalty against Cheverus allowed the Rams to maintain possession.
