EDWARD LITTLE 4, BREWER 3

The eighth-seeded Red Eddies (10-7) scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to upset the top-seeded Witches (14-3) in a Class A quarterfinal at UMaine’s Mahaney Diamond.

Campbell Cassidy scored the go-ahead run on an error and retired the Witches in the bottom of the seventh as Edward Little advanced to face No. 4 Messalonskee in the semifinals on Saturday.

The Red Eddies tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh when Eli St. Laurent drove in Caleb Albert on a squeeze play.

Cassidy and Drew Smith each had two hits for Edward Little, which also plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2.

Smith pitched the first 4 1/3 innings for the Eddies. Cassidy relieved Smith and struck our four batters while holding the Witches scoreless over the final 2 2/3 innings.

The Witches took the lead in the third on a two-run single by Rowan Valley and added another run in the fourth to go up 3-2.

Grady Vanidestine pitched a complete game for the Witches. He struck out three and allowed eight hits.
