Five players scored touchdowns and the third-seeded Navigators (6-3) used a swarming defense and a steady ground game to easily defeat the sixth-seeded Rams (2-7) in a Class B South quarterfinal in Falmouth.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Navigators broke through with 4:56 left in the second after Tres Walker threw a long pass to Abram Wintersteen. Walker followed with a 1-yard keeper up the middle, and Peter Kearns kicked the extra point as Falmouth went into halftime with a 7-0 lead.

In the third quarter, TJ Saulter’s 23-yard run set up a 1-yard touchdown by Brendon Welch. Saulter added a 12-yard touchdown run, and Kearns kicked his third extra point for a 21-0 lead.

Luke Roy caught a 2-yard scoring pass from Walker early in the fourth. On Gorham’s next possession, quarterback Garrett Poulin connected with Atticus Whitten to get the Rams into Falmouth territory, but Saulter striped the ball from Whitten and Roy recovered the fumble.

Wesley Howard capped the scoring with a 31-yard run.

Falmouth’s victory sets up a semifinal against second-seeded Kennebunk, which lost to the Navigators in last year’s state final.
