Thomas Curtis rushed for a touchdown on the game’s opening drive, then threw two touchdown passes to Noah Evans in the second half as the Crusaders (1-2) defeated the Cougars (1-2) in Bangor.

John Bapst started the game with a drive that lasted more than seven minutes. A 27-yard pass from Curtis to Evans set up the 1-yard plunge by Curtis that gave John Bapst a 6-0 lead.

Dirigo tied it on the opening drive of the second half, which was capped by Hudson Lufkin’s 9-yard scramble.

The Crusaders quickly answered, as Curtis connected with Evans for a 27-yard touchdown.

The game was delayed for nearly a half hour after the ensuing kickoff because of an injury to a Dirigo player. John Bapst eventually held on downs, then extended its lead early in the fourth quarter. On fourth-and-2 from the Cougars 20, Curtis threw a pass over the middle that was deflected by a defender but wound up in the hands of Evans as he crossed into the end zone.
