The Hornets (1-0) pulled away with a pair of quick goals in the second half, and beat the Tigers (0-1) in a season-opening match in Gardiner.

Tyler Mates set up Angelo Toscano for a goal about 10 minutes after halftime, then Mates scored two minutes later on a free direct kick from right outside the box to put Leavitt up 3-0. Jacob Gibbs scored in the first half, and Derek Fortin finished the scoring for Leavitt with a penalty kick with 5:21 left in the game.

Isaac Boyce scored Gardiner’s first goal on a PK, and Carter Malloy netted a goal with 1:14 left in the game.

PJ Gove made nine saves for the Tigers, while Hornets goalie Luke Horn stopped eight shots.
