Gio Staples passed for five touchdowns and ran for another, leading the Blue Blazes (3-1) past the Red Eddies (1-3) in Auburn.

Staples connected with Cole Tanner for 16 yards and Owen Taylor for a 20-yard TD in the opening quarter. Early in the second quarter, an 88-yard run by Tanner set up a 1-yard run by Staples that made it 20-0.

EL quarterback Evan Madigan scrambled for a 34-yard touchdown run, but Westbrook quickly answered with a 54-yard strike to Dimitri Lubin for a 27-6 halftime advantage.

The Red Eddies cut into their deficit in the third quarter, getting a 45-yard field goal from Matt Fecteau and a fumble recovery in the end zone by Kohlson Alexander after Westbrook botched a shotgun snap.

The Blue Blazes, though, regained control in the fourth. Staples threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Peter Wescott, and a takeaway by Westbrook’s defense led to a 39-yard TD catch by Lubin.

Andre Hicks III capped the scoring with a 56-yard run.
